Thoroughbred Training Coments

Are you worried about sending your Racehorses away for training?

What's the single biggest worry you have about sending your Racehorse away for care and/or training?

Lisa That the horse would develop as I wish
Nicola Breaking my horse’s heart. I have seen too many horses (race horses) being flogged and it breaks their heart and they lose confidence.. and also the amount of inexperienced people who handle them. I know they have to got to start somewhere but I have seen alot of young horses hurt.
Jack That the horse is going to sit in a back paddock but I'm going to be charged full dollar for services not rendered.
Nicolette That the trainers believe all horses/youngsters are the same, one size fits all
Shona Horses don't get enough attention
Anon That the hands on people actually care that my horse is comfortable in it's work so that it doesn't get stressed and worried
Gill Lack of understanding the particular type of animal it is or any idiosyncrasies
Judy That the horse will return hot & misread, will be under educated & possibly spoilt.
Katrena Quality of education
Nikki Lack of contact! Chasing them for updates and an 'increase in time' needed without a decent reason apart from they have been too busy.
Mitch Lack of experience and knowledge about handling/training.
Hayley Ill treatment

What's made you the most frustrated in the past when you've sent your horse away for Weaning, Breaking-In, Pre-Training or Agistment?

Lisa Lack of attention to detail and common sense.
Sara Lack of communication and clarity of what being done and why. Or treating horse as if any other / not allowing for individual personality.
Nicola My horses coming back either knowing they have gotten away with bad manners or have been bullied into things without learning good result bad result consistently
Nicolette Lack of follow through and communication
Shona Not enough care taken with our precious boy
Anon That I've been treated like a mushroom
Gill Further to above, and trainer rushing the animal to its detriment. .
Judy Not being told what is happening with horses progress, lack of personal care for the horse.
Katrena Lack of communication
Mitchell My horse won't come home in good shape, I'm worried he'll loose condition and confidence.
Hayley Not maintaining his feed schedule

Please tell us of any other experience you've had with a horse trainer or agistment property that's upset you?

Lisa Getting horse back from agistment with a leg cut that eventually proved to need surgery and 3 months rehab.
Sara When you see / hear about brutal tactics that have broken the horse into submission rather than educated the horse.
Nicola That people tell you what you want to hear and then you find out later that they still do it their way and you then can notice it with your horses behaviour
Nicolette Not being kept informed of any problems or changes which affect over cost. ie feeding, changing grazing properties.
Shona I sent our boy away nicely started with a lovely attitude and soft mouth. He came home stressed out over worked on injuries nobody had picked up on and with a mouth like iron, he now weaves when he gets upset.
Anon I sent a horse to a trainer some years ago.  I was charged full rates and I'm sure it hardly ever left the paddock because I drove past the gate every day and I never saw it move.
Gill Horses not being fed enough for the work they have been getting, losing condition and also getting thrashed and ending up hurt or sore somewhere.
Judy No daily brushing or picking of feet, bad tempered handlers like farrier etc, hard mouth & pulling.
Nikki Injuries that have not been reported to the owner, mare put in paddock with other horses when she is ment to be solo and consequently bening beaten up with massive haematomas that were 'noticed' at the time of collection.
Mitchell That they won't really look after my horse they just care about taking my money
Hayley My horse having all four legs x-rayed without permission with no evidence of problems- and we had to pay the bill for the x-rays
