How do you get on with your Coaches, Trainers or Instructors?
What’s your biggest challenge when it comes to having lessons with an instructor or coach?
Lisa |
Communication |
Melanie |
Having them understand my injuries and that I sometimes simply can’t physically ride in certain positions |
Jordan |
They never ask what I want to do! |
Lee |
Saving for lessons |
Holly |
Affording regular lessons!
PS i would just like to say that while i have answered the questions below honestly, the situations i have described dont really happen any longer because ive found an instructor whose methods i respect and who i like. What is the point of staying with someone who upsets you or who you dont agree with? Unfortunatly though, it is just trial and error that gives you enough experience to find the right person. |
Judy |
Trying to get the best out of my lesson & learn as much as possible. |
Rowan |
finding the money to pay for as many lessons as I would like to have |
Mike |
communication |
Gab |
getting to a destination |
What frustrates you about instructors or coaches?
Lisa |
Communication and sense of humour. Lack of understanding from coach for my goals and lack of "coaching". Which is what I believe I’m paying for. |
Melanie |
Expecting too much or not enough, constantly praising without making you work |
Jordan |
They expect me to understand what they're talking about and some of the terms might make sense to them but I have no idea what they really mean. |
Lee |
I'm very happy with the trainers I use but I hate seeing trainers that don't recognise when a pupil (either horse or rider) is overfaced. |
Melanie |
Having no lesson plan, no goals, no plan of advancement and homework til the next lesson. There is nothing worse then an instructor who doesn't have these and leaves you feeling like your just stuck in the same old rut and not progressing |
Holly |
When they do push you but dont take the time to explain what they want, so i just get scared! |
Judy |
Not understanding the horse and why it's behaving that way, then saying "make him do it" etc |
Mike |
always thought im no good and then want me do something wothout explanation how to do it.. |
Gab |
Offering instruction without knowing what you are experiencing ie if horse feels explosive and they tell you to push it on and you know it will end in tears! Sometimes if the instructor would get on and have a ride they would have a better understanding. |
What’s your main fear about lessons in general?
Lisa |
That the trainer will be to "aggressive" towards my horse in handling or be wanting "to much" exercise wise. |
Melanie |
Having faith in instructor, that they won’t push your horse too hard |
Jordan |
Are they just parrot teaching to make some $ & fill in time? Some I've been to just don't seem to care that I've taken anything out of the session. |
Lee |
Not a fear as such but I need to write everything down straight afterwards or else I forget a lot :-) |
Holly |
That i might have to do something I’m nervous about, and the instructor doesn’t understand. I don’t mind trying something even if I’m nervous as long as the instructor understands and will be patient. I don’t like people who shout too much. |
Judy |
I don't respect them enough to agree with what they are saying. |
Mike |
im not agree with what they are saying |
Gab |
Lessons generally are great but often expensive |
