Excerpts from Trevor Cowan's Diary

4th May 2009

Trevor (17.2hh) beside Tammy Cowan Jenika has been busy training up Trevor for his first Horse Trail competition, which they did last weekend in Hamilton. He was spectacular! He did a reasonable dressage test, clear show jumping and just one hesitation (classed as a stop) at the water jump during the cross country phase, otherwise a very admirable first 2 day event. The professional photographer there told us that Trevor was “too good to event” after seeing him show jump. He is still very inexperienced and Jenika said that he seemed to be surprised at every cross country jump and she really had to ride each jump.  Photo shows Trevor and I watching the show jumping.

He has come such a long way in just four months with us.

Trevor in training! We were up early on Saturday morning with the horses at a hired arena, in the rain. I took a few photo’s of Trevor jumping. Every time he is ridden he shows improvement. Jenika was taking him over little jumps, and we worked our way up to bigger ones, we had this one measured by the next person hiring the arena, and it was 1.30m! It didn’t seem that big, but then the horse is rather large. He is very easy to handle now
